The Wildlife Rehabilitation Traineeship at amaZOOnico offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, develop professional skills and learn from an experienced wildlife rescue team. Designed for individuals aspiring to build a career in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation, this program combines meaningful contribution with hands-on learning and long-term professional development.

Minimum 21 years of age.
Minimum commitment of 6 months.
Genuine passion for wildlife conservation and rehabilitation.
Strong interest in pursuing a future career in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation or conservation.
Previous volunteering or practical experience in animal care, wildlife conservation, veterinary settings or a related field is strongly preferred.
Professional attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
Ability to perform physically demanding activities in hot, humid rainforest conditions.
Comfort living in a remote tropical location with limited communication and amenities.
Ability to work and communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.
Fluency in English or Spanish.
Willingness to follow established animal welfare protocols and center procedures.
Monthly contribution covering food and accommodation only ($250/month)
What's involved?
What's involved?
Trainees will join our pre-release team, working alongside experienced staff in the daily care and preparation of animals for potential release.
Activities may include:
Daily husbandry, feeding, collection of wild food items, cleaning, developing and implementing environmental enrichment activities.
Assisting with syringe feeding when required and under staff supervision.
Conducting behavioral observations, collecting and recording research data, and monitoring development.
Camera trap monitoring, reviewing footage and organizing records.
Learning about rehabilitation, social integration and pre-release assessments.
* Responsibilities and training opportunities will depend on individual experience, demonstrated abilities and programme needs, with animal-related tasks supervised by permanent staff.
