Visit US
Within 5 hectares, we rehabilitate animals to reintroduce into their natural habitats, care for more than 200 animals that can't be released, and carry out environmental activities with visitors focused on conservation and the perils of illegal wildlife trafficking.
basics
In favor of wildlife conservation, we receive visitors from 8:30am to 2:30pm every day of the year.
You need to make a reservation over:
The main phone: +593 6301 7717
WhatsApp: +593 99 414 3395
Or mail: info@amazoonicorescue.org
Visits last about 1 hour and every group receives a volunteer who guides visitors through the center.
Each visitor helps support the maintenance of the center and its animals with the purchase of an entrance ticket. This economic contribution goes from
$5 to whatever is desired.
We receive donations on the "help us" tab on this website, at the center, by Paypal, and by bank transfer.
Our ANIMALS
Unfortunately, there are many animals that cannot be reintroduced into their natural habitats for various reasons.
Some of the animals you'll see at the center include macaws, parrots, jaguarundis, ocelots, coatis, toucans, turtles, different species of monkeys, etc.
They have no choice but to be here, so we give them the best care we can and spread the message against wildlife trafficking so that no one else ends up in a cage.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING?
We recommend you bring rubber boots or sneakers (when it's raining, there is mud), a waterproof jacket in case it rains, a camera, mosquito repellent, and do not forget your mask!
Other than that, we recommend that you bring some money because we have a lot of beautiful indigenous handcrafts and chocolates, and some donation boxes in case you want to support us a little bit more.
amaZOOnico is 100% a non-profit. All money collected goes directly towards caring for the animals and general maintenance of the center. Additionally, amaZOOnico receives no funding support from the government of Ecuador or corporate sources. Our only means of funding is through visitor economic contributions and private donations.
HOW DO YOU GET HERE?
TENA - AMAZOONICO (Bus)
In Tena, find one of the bus terminals "Jumandy" or "Centinela del Tena". Take a bus to "Puerto Barantilla" ($2.40/1:30h). At Puerto Barantilla, wait for a motor canoe and ask the driver to take you to amaZOOnico (10min). The frequency and cost of the canoe rides varies a lot, so we recommend you to order a canoe by calling Liana Lodge: (+593) 06 301 7702
MISAHUALLI - AMAZOONICO (Canoe)
If you want to enjoy a canoe trip, you can come to amaZOOnico from Misahualli in canoe. They will take you to our animal rescue center and, after the visit, they will bring you back to the city.

SECURITY RULES
For the security and welfare of all (humans and animals), these are our rules. Visitors who fail to adhere to these rules may be asked to leave the center. Thanks for the understanding.
Don't interact with animals (either they're in enclosures or free living) by means of physical contact or verbal communication. Human interaction stresses the non-releasable ones, makes less releasable the ones which can be reintroduced, and can mean the transmission of dangerous diseases for all.
Don't feed the animals.
Don't bring pets to the center or in the shop.
Stay on walking paths together with your group at all times and don't enter restricted areas of the center.
All photos must be taken without flash.
Don't smoke in any part of the center.
Please note that visitors wishing to take images or video with professional equipment will be charged an additional $500
